Mission Statement:

What We Do & Why

1) Peer Support & Connection for Fellow MMH Therapists

The Collective first stared with the goal of getting male therapists together for mutual connection and support. This is a particularly tough field with high rates of burn out. Therefore, it’s standard best practices for therapists to not only seek out continuing education, but to engage in ongoing therapy themselves. Additionally, the profession can be surprisingly lonely, especially in private practice and telehealth. The group format is particularly important for men, given that (just like our clients) we also struggle with emotional connection and vulnerability. So, for a range of reasons, including practicing what we preach, our first goal is to simply be there for each other.

2) Professional Development - Practice & Case Consultation

As therapists, and as men who take pride in our profession, we work hard to hone our craft and provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based interventions that we can find. Additionally, it is common best practices - with care for complete discretion and confidentiality - to consult on cases with other therapists. The MMH Collective provides a space where members can continue growing as therapists, especially in the field of men’s mental health, and challenge themselves and each other to provide the highest quality care for their clients.

3) Deepen & Expand the Field of Men’s Mental Health

It is a fairly established fact now that men have higher rates of substance abuse and suicide along with few social supports, and yet they are less likely to seek therapy. We believe this is a failure on the part of society generally, and the mental health professional specifically. Blaming those who are suffering has been rejected for every other demographic, and we belief it we should reject it for men too. We hope to challenge the barriers men face to getting the help they deserve and help all therapists better serve the men they work with.

4) Shape the Public Conversation on Men’s Issues

We believe the public conversation on men’s issues is minimal at best, and actively harmful at it’s worst. And it’s often at it’s worst. An important purpose of the MMH blog is to provide healthy, informed professional perspectives on men’s issues, which includes broader social issues and questions of masculinity.

5) Connect Men to Quality Resources & Qualified Therapists

Whether finding a therapist or a group or an article that helps someone figure it out on their own, we want to help fix the problems and improve the lives of every guy who needs a bit of help, not only our clients. If none of the groups or therapists in our directories are a good match for you, please reach out and we will be happy to help connect you with one of the many other therapists and groups we’re connected to.
